Males have long run the skateboarding industry but 2015 saw a push back whereby the very word “skate,” turned into something a little more homogenous. Females skate organisations like Girls Skate South Africa, and riders like Thato Moet, Siya Bulela and Angie Schultz have made it clear that it’s a girls sport too – with new backing by Reebok South Africa.
Reebok will partner with community organisation Girls Skate South Africa. The aim is to spread the love of skating and get more girls on board. On the video founder Sharne Jacobs noted:
“I wanted to see more girls at skateparks and get girls comfortable enough to skate in front of the guys.”
